About Me...

I am currently majoring in Elementary Education at the University of South Alabama. I have to admit, I did not enter college with the intentions of becoming a teacher; however, this major has truly captured my heart. I am entering my third year of coaching a Junior Varsity volleyball team and am loving every minute. I have also had the opportunity to serve the organization 100 Black Men in their tutoring program, and I have been able to tutor for different schools apart from that specific program. I am interested and excited to see what these next few years hold.
My Teaching Philosophy ...

Leadership...

I believe that I would bring leadership to the classroom. Knowing the difference between leading and controlling is important for one to understand. If I know my place as the authority in the classroom and the students respect me, it creates an environment for the classroom to function as it is should. By leading instead of controlling, the students find support, comfort, security, and peace in their teachers. When school almost becomes a home away from home, it is important for teachers to make the most of the time they have with their students.

Integrity...

I believe that integrity would be a major part of my teaching philosophy. It is imperative, especially at the elementary level, that kids learn what exactly integrity is. I consider it a top priority for me to handle my students, parents, and co-workers with the same integrity. Integrity, as defined by Merriam-Webster, is described as soundness, incorruptibility, completeness, and honesty. How amazing would it be if we could capture a child’s heart at an early age and have traits, such as these, instilled in their life? As a teacher, I would do everything possible to teach such lessons to my students.

Humor...

I believe humor would characterize part of my teaching philosophy. I think it is important for the students, as well as me, to not take themselves so seriously. I remember as a child, being scared to come to school some years. I was afraid of answering a question wrong or not being quick enough in reading or math. I would like to create a fun learning experience for the children; therefore, they would find security and comfort in coming to school and learning.

Collaboration...

I believe collaboration is a wise way to teach. To be completely honest, I am not the most creative person when it comes to teaching lessons or decorating classrooms, but I would love to learn and borrow ideas. Being able to work with other teachers, get ideas, and work together would serve as a huge help in my teaching career. I would love to be able to bring my experience and ideas to help in any way I could as well. It always seems as though the most successful people are the ones that work together.

Continued Personal Learning...

I believe that continued personal learning would serve a major role in my teaching philosophy. At every grade level, the bar is raised for the children to learn more in-depth subject matter. I do not think it will ever be acceptable for teachers to stop learning, because not only are new things being discovered every day, but also it keeps us learning, growing, and informed.
